The phone module case

Phone thermal cameras are tiny, easy to store, and excellent when you want screenshots, app controls, and a large display. They are especially appealing for electronics benches and quick home checks.

The handheld case

Handheld thermal cameras are better when you are moving through a house, standing near equipment, wearing gloves, or using the camera in places where you do not want your phone exposed. Battery, grip, controls, and storage are all part of the tool.

Compatibility is a real spec

USB-C does not automatically mean every phone works cleanly. Check iPhone versus Android support, port orientation, app availability, and whether your case blocks the connector. A great module is still a bad buy if it does not fit your phone.

The simple decision

Buy a phone module if you mostly work at a bench, value screenshots, and want the smallest kit. Buy a handheld if you scan rooms, equipment, ducts, breakers, or anything where one-handed tool ergonomics matter.
