Native IR resolution

Native IR resolution is the detector size. It tells you how many true thermal pixels the camera starts with. Upscaling and super-resolution can make images easier to read, but native pixels still matter when you need to separate small objects.

NETD and sensitivity

NETD describes how small a temperature difference the sensor can distinguish. Lower is generally better, but only when the number is documented clearly and the optics/focus support your job. Many budget listings do not publish a useful sensitivity spec.

Refresh rate

A 25 Hz camera feels smoother when panning across a wall, ceiling, motor, or circuit board. Lower-refresh cameras can still work, but the image feels more delayed. Refresh rate does not make a low-resolution sensor magically detailed.

Temperature range and accuracy

A wide temperature range is useful for hot electronics, engines, and HVAC equipment, but home buyers often need pattern clarity more than a 1000 F maximum. Accuracy also depends on emissivity, reflections, distance, focus, and surface material.

Focus and field of view

Fixed focus is fine for walls and appliances. Manual or macro focus matters when the target is tiny. Field of view controls how much scene fits in the image, which changes whether a camera feels better for rooms or close-up work.
